TIRUPATI: Minister for School Education N. Rajyalakshmi inaugurated a new gallery -- `Our Senses' -- at the Regional Science Centre here on Saturday. The centre, coming under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), works towards popularising science among the younger generation. The permanent gallery inaugurated on Saturday has 45 interactive exhibits aimed at explaining the role of the five sense organs, collectively called the `Gateway of knowledge,' in the proper functioning of human body.
`State promoting science'
Speaking after inaugurating the gallery, Ms. Rajyalakshmi said that despite the strides made by science and technology, a section of the society had remained elusive and was still bogged by illiteracy and superstition. On the steps initiated by the State Government to promote science, she said that Rs.9 crores was being spent every year towards establishing science centres in all districts and holding science fairs at mandal, district and State levels.
Plea to Minister
Director of Science City, Kolkata, T.K. Ganguly, requested the Minister to arrange transportation facility to the centre from Alipiri gate, while D. Narayana Rao, director of National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, appealed to her to take steps to let the students of all schools in the Rayalaseema districts visit the science centre. K.Vasudeva Bhatta, director, Visweswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore, local MLA M.Venkataramana and K.Madangopal, RSC project coordinator spoke.
