VISAKHAPATNAM: The State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) regional office has made alternative arrangements by recruiting several wait-listed drivers and retired employees to ensure normal operations in view of the strike called by trade unions from October 18. RTC Regional Manager D. Satyanarayana said on Saturday that they were taking maximum possible steps to avoid inconvenience to commuters. As part of the contingency plan, 20 wait-listed contract drivers, selected in January, were asked to report to RTC Personnel Department here on Monday. Retired officers and supervisors, whose service was being sought during the strike period, would be paid Rs.300 and Rs.225 a day respectively. All pass-holders would be allowed in buses as per their validity. The corporation is not likely to issue tickets in the buses due to shortage of staff.
