HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi greeted on telephone President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his birthday on Saturday. The President, who turned 74, was also greeted by Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu who presented bouquets to him at the Raj Bhavan. Before he emplaned for Hyderabad on Friday, nine spiritual leaders blessed him in New Delhi. After reaching the Raj Bhavan here late on Friday night, the Presidential staff cut a cake to celebrate the occasion. Among those present were his close friend and long-time associate Arun Tiwari of the CARE Foundation. On Saturday, cakes was also cut at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy where the President went to fulfil his official engagements.
