Police Commemoration Day on October 21

VIJAYAWADAGUNTUR: In connection with the Police Commemoration Day on October 21, the City Police Commissionerate will conduct several competitions to police personnel and students.

A blood donation camp will be organised by the police on the Armed Reserve grounds on October 16. Essay-writing competitions will be held to the police at the same venue on the next day. Topics selected for the competition are: `Why don't we stop using third-degree methods?' `Police department is for public' and `Political involvement in policing.'

Drawing and essay writing competitions will be conducted to students of different schools and colleges on October 18 and elocution competitions will be held on October 19.

The police will take out a rally in the city on October 21 after offering a salute to martyrs at the Armed Reserve grounds.

VIJAYAWADAGUNTUR: The police play a major role in protecting the life and property of the citizens and many of them carry out their duties under grave risk to their own life and their families' lives, said Guntur District Judge Adithya Prasad Bhanjdev.

Inaugurating the week here, Mr. Bhanjdev said the great sacrifices made by the police were for keeping up the law of the land.

District Collector G. Jayalakshmi commended the sacrificial spirit of policemen.

Six policemen laid down their lives while serving the nation and another three civilians had been killed till date this year, said Additional Superintendent of Police S. Ranga Reddy.

Those policemen were Sk. Nazeer (Gullapalli, January 2005) R. Prasad, G.S. Mohan Rao, Mohammed Umar and R. Venkateshwar Rao, who were killed in the naxalite raid on Chilakaluripet police station on March 11. Three civilians were also killed in the attack. B. Samuel from the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) was killed in the district in May, he said.

Blood donation

A blood-donation camp was conducted on the occasion and 40 policemen, including town Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu, Circle-Inspectors, Sub Inspectors donated blood.
