TORANAGAL (BELLARY DIST.): M. Mallikarjun Kharge KPCC President and Minister for Water Resources, while expressing concern over the World Bank report in the media feared that such distorted reporting would affect the image of the party and also that of the government. Responding to questions by presspersons at the Jindal airstrip here on Sunday, Mr. Kharge said he was yet to study the report in detail. However, based on what had appeared in the media, he said that the report had only mentioned the hindrances and bottlenecks for growth in various States and did not contain any charges of large-scale corruption. Reiterating that there was no change in the stand of the party on contesting the elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats on its own, Mr. Kharge hoped that the Congress would do well. Regarding the `Sangharsha Yatra' of the BJP, Mr. Kharge said he was at a loss to understand "why for and what for" the yatra was being taken out. Criticising the BJP, the KPCC President said the yatra only indicated that the BJP was not pro-development and did not want to support the Government in providing good administration.
