Doctors and police personnel addressed the session Need to sensitise public highlighted
KOZHIKODE: October 16, declared as World Trauma Day by the World Heath Organisation, was observed here on Sunday. Programmes were held under the aegis of the Indian Orthopaedic Association, Kerala Branch, Indian Medical Association, Kozhikode and Trauma Care Society, Kozhikode (Track). The objective is to sensitise the public on the need to provide assistance to accident victims and immediate care. An awareness rally taken out at Mananchira Square was flagged off by M.N. Krishnamurthy, Inspector General of Police (North Range). Over 500 persons participated in the rally, which was led by Mr. Krishnamurthy. He also inaugurated a public meeting at the Town Hall. Mr. Krishnamurthy lauded the service rendered by Track, which has been training volunteers since 1998. Track president N. Subhash Babu; secretary M.N. Nambiar; IOA Kerala Branch president; U. Jayaprakash, IMA; Calicut president P.C. Shaji; Thomas Mathew, councillor, among others, spoke on the occasion. The day acquires relevance in Kerala as the maximum number of road accidents occur in the State.
