BACK HOME: Golu with his mother and grandmother in Patna on Sunday.
PATNA: A schoolboy, held captive for 26 days, was freed on Sunday. Gaurav Kumar, nicknamed Golu, was restored to his parents on Sunday morning after he landed at Hajipur Junction. The abductors, who took the boy to Uttar Pradesh, freed him a day before the deadline set by the Patna High Court for his safe release by the police. PTI reports: Contrary to police claim that the abductors released Golu under mounting pressure, the nine-year-old boy told presspersons that he escaped around midnight when the kidnappers were asleep. He reached the Varanasi railway station and took a train to Hajipur. At the junction, he was sighted by a RPF constable, who informed his family about him. The police had claimed that faced with intense pressure, the kidnappers put Golu on a train at Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh from where he reached Hajipur. Zonal Inspector-General of Police A.S. Nimbran told reporters that no ransom was paid. Golu's family took him to Mahavir temple near the Patna railway junction to offer prayer.
