Gang robs four, including journalist, of valuables

BANGALORE: A four-member gang robbed four persons on Saturday, including a journalist of The Hindu, Bangalore, of their valuables and motorcycles in Yelahanka and Ramamurthinagar Police Station limits.

The police said that the gang first waylaid Keshavamurthy, who was riding a motorcycle on Jakkur Tank Bund, and relieved him of his motorcycle and Rs. 1,500 in cash at 10.20 p.m.

When they saw another motorcycle approaching, they forced Keshavamurthy into the tank and waylaid that motorcyclist too.

The gang relieved the rider, Ramu, of Rs. 1,000 in cash and the motorcycle.

Then the gang, the police said, went to Balaji Layout near Ramakrishna Hegde Nagar and waylaid K.M. Cariappa of The Hindu who was on his way home with his wife around 10.45 p.m.

The gang relieved the couple of the motorcycle, a mobile phone, wristwatch, mangalasutra and Rs. 800 in cash.

The Yelahanka Police have registered cases in this connection. Investigation is on.

The gang then waylaid Somashekhar, a car driver, who was walking on Kalkere Main Road in Ramamurthinagar Police Station limits at 11.45 p.m.

They relieved Somashekhar of Rs. 2,600 in cash and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene leaving behind Mr. Cariappa's helmet.

The Ramamurthinagar Police have registered a case. Investigation is on.
