dated October 18, 1955: Pakistan-Afghan ties

Pakistan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Pir Ali Mohammed Rashdi, said in Lahore on October 16 that it was a matter of regret that the present rulers of Afghanistan "continued to indulge in unfriendly and undesirable acts" against Pakistan. For instance, he added, they did not desist from their usual habit of commenting on the internal affairs of Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Afghan Minister in Karachi, Sardar Mohammed Atiq Khan Rafiq, has formally informed the Pakistan Foreign Office that he is returning to Kabul "since the doors for negotiations between the two countries have been closed." Sardar Rafiq said that while no final decision had been taken, there was the possibility that Afghanistan might take the Pakhtoonistan issue to the UN since direct talks with Pakistan had failed.
