Letters to the Editor
The Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College was founded in 1877 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan to promote modern education among Muslims, notwithstanding stiff resistance from Muslim clergy. The concept did not change when MAO College became AMU in 1920. The ruling of the Allahabad High Court quashing its minority status is unfortunate.
Syed Sultan Mohiddin,
The ruling is commendable. AMU is not the only university where Muslims are pursuing post-graduate courses. Universities should be open to merit irrespective of a person's faith. Reservation on religious basis will only create schisms between different faiths, ultimately leading to separatism.
Bazi Shaik,
