Israel sets up drug de-addiction centre in Manali

KULLU: : The Israeli government has established a camp in Manali town of Himachal Pradesh to rescue their citizens from becoming drug addicts and educate them about their religion.

The main aim in setting up the camp was to educate the Israeli tourists about the Jewish religion, said a rabbi Bareich Shenhav, at the special camp.

"At first we teach them about our Tohra. We should also provide them habitation so that they can get the feelings of being at home," he said.

The region attracts a large number of foreign tourists due to good weather conditions and easy availability of drugs.

About 20,000 Israeli tourists visit Manali every year.

Foreign tourists visiting the town have also appreciated its weather conditions and breathtaking scenic beauty.

"The place is amazing. The atmosphere here gives me the energy to be fit for the whole day," said an Israeli tourist.

"Here in Manali, I feel like I am at home. Every place is like your country," said another Israeli tourist.

About one-sixth of the total foreign tourists visiting the State were from Israel, State police officials said, adding that they had not faced any major problems from them. UNI
