IN SESSION: Chief Minister N Rangasamy addressing the Pondicherry Assembly on Monday.
PONDICHERRY: The two All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislators, A. Anbalagan and A. Kasilingam, and the lone Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, A.M. Krishnamoorthy, walked out of the Assembly on Monday to protest against lack of measures by Government to tackle unemployment and other issues. Appearing in black robes and sporting hoods and carrying mud bowls, the AIADMK members alleged that the Government failed to tackle unemployment problem. Mr. Anbalagan and Mr. Kasilingam went ahead with their spate of complaints even as the Speaker, M.D.R. Ramachandran told them that the AIADMK's call attention and adjournment motions given notice of were not permitted. The Speaker also urged the members to resume their seats without interrupting the proceedings. The BJP member displayed a placard containing a series of complaints. Mr. Krishnamoorthy said no steps had been taken to hold civic polls for years together. He said the Government was adopting a very unwholesome partial policy in providing jobs to the youth, he said. The legislators then walked out. They returned to the House a few minutes later. Even as the opposition members were making vociferous allegations against the Government, the Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, presented copies of the Bills seeking amendment to the Pondicherry Municipalities and Village and Commune and Panchayats Acts.
