Bonus hike for Government staff

Special Correspondent

Ceiling raised from Rs. 10,000 to 11,000

PONDICHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy flooded the Union Territory Assembly with a series of announcements on Monday when the House had a brief winter session and adjourned sine die.

Mr. Rangasamy who made suo moto announcements after the House transacted its business said that all the employees and workers in the Pondicherry Government-sponsored corporations and public sector undertakings would get an increase by five per cent in the rate of bonus over what they had got last year for Diwali.

The ceiling of bonus amount had also been raised from Rs. 10,000 (prevailing last year) to Rs. 11,000 for the current Diwali festival.

All along there had been a static rate of bonus for the workers in the corporations and public sector undertakings. Now the increase by five per cent had been effected as a Diwali gift to the workers. He said this was however not a pre-election largesse as was commented by a section of AIADMK members earlier in the House.

Mr. Rangasamy said the Government was offering quota of reservation (20 per cent) for the Most Backward Classes in educational institutions and also in getting the welfare measures of various schemes. Now the Government had decided to provide quota of reservation for the MBCs in employment also. This would benefit the candidates during recruitment to the Groups C and D categories of employment and the reservation would be applicable for candidates in Pondicherry, Karaikal and Yanam regions only.

Mr. Rangasamy said that the MBCs and OBCs (Other Backward classes) would get quota of reservation in jobs in the ratio of 60:40 per cent respectively.
