FHRAI Institute in Greater Noida

NEW DELHI: The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has set up the FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management at Greater Noida near here with consulting support and academic certification from the prestigious Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL), Switzerland. The first academic session at the institute has already begun with a batch of 45 students.

The institute is headed by Nisheeth Srivastava, while FHRAI secretary-general Shyam Suri is its CEO. Equipped with an information technology infrastructure and services, the institute has started courses in the core subjects of food production, food service, front office and housekeeping.

Good response to Handicrafts Fair

NEW DELHI: The five-day Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair that ended here at Pragati Maidan on Monday generated business worth more than Rs.900 crores, according to the organisers.

A random survey during the event revealed that visitors raised over 15,000 inquiries either for purchase or for development of new designs and products from India. A total of 1,863 exhibitors from all over India participated in the event showcasing more than 800 products, designs, styles and colours. Most of the buyers originated from America, Europe, Latin America, Far-East, South-East Asia, Central Asia and West Asian countries.

Focus on AIDS awareness

NEW DELHI: To give a further impetus to the ongoing HIV/AIDS programme, the Director-General of National Cadet Corps, Lieutenant-General M.C. Bhandari, had a meeting with the Programme Officer of UNAIDS (India), Mettine Due, and the National Programme Officer of UNICEF, Shankar Chowdhary, at NCC headquarters here on Monday.

The overall programme to combat the dreaded disease across the country will be controlled and coordinated by Gen. Bhandari. To mark World AIDS Day on December 1, NCC cadets will organise AIDS awareness rallies across the country.

UNAIDS will fund the entire project for the next two years. Initially, it will give 200,000 dollars.

Bar Council's gesture

NEW DELHI: The Bar Council of India has expressed deep sorrow at the unprecedented loss of lives in India and Pakistan due to the severe earthquake that recently hit both the countries.

The members of the Bar Council of India have contributed a token sum of Rs.1,00,000 and sent it to the Bar Council of Pakistan as a gesture of sympathy and solidarity with the people of the neighbouring country. It has also appealed to the legal community in the country to contribute generously.
