NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday expressed its disapproval of dissident activity spurred by the former Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, in Madhya Pradesh and made it clear that there was "no proposal for any change in the State leadership." At a meeting of general secretaries and senior leaders, chaired by party president L.K. Advani, the issue was discussed. After a meeting at Ms. Bharti's residence in Bhopal on Sunday, some legislators reportedly talked about a signature campaign demanding a meeting of the legislature party. Party general secretary Arun Jaitley told presspersons that as of now no letter had been received by Mr. Advani. "The party does not approve of the mode of a signature campaign being announced by some MLAs to express their views. ... Party legislators can always talk to party leaders or speak their minds at party forums."
Disciplinary action
Disciplinary action could be taken if the party affairs in the State got messier. There was a culture of discipline in the organisation and it would be maintained. The meeting decided to ask the State unit president, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, to send a report on the developments to Mr. Advani, Mr. Jaitley said. He refused to comment on Ms. Bharti's letter to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief, K.S. Sudarshan. "We do not share with the media our internal party discussions," he added.
