Transport official transferred

VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Transport Commissioner S.A.V. Prasada Rao was transferred and relieved on Monday. He handed over charge to RTO Panchamukheswara Rao.

Warangal DTC M. Ratna Manikyam was transferred to Vijayawada. She is expected to assume charge in a few days.

Mr. Prasada Rao had a long stint in Vijayawada. He served here as an RTO from 1995 to 1999. After a short gap, he joined as DTC on promotion in April 2002. Mr. Rao was DTC at Eluru from 1999 to 2002 and took additional charge of Vijayawada from September 2001 to April 2002. Later, he was transferred to the city as the DTC.

Mr. Rao was one of the officers who played a key role in developing and implementing the concept of "SAFAR", a programme aimed at creating awareness on road safety. He made special efforts to increase revenue collections, which went up from Rs. 49.41 crores in 2000-`01 to Rs. 103 crores in 2004-`05. In just four years, the revenue had more than doubled.

Mr. Prasada Rao took tough steps to root out the problem of middlemen. Following a confrontation with local MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, Mr. Rao led the RTA staff in taking out a rally and registering their protest.

RTA, Vijayawada, became the first Government office to get ISO 9001-2000 Certificationfor introducing a number of initiatives to enhance public interface. .
