BANGALORE: The State Government on Monday despatched 43 tonnes of relief material, including food items, medicine and blankets, for the victims of the earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir, by an Indian Air Force cargo aircraft. Addressing presspersons at the airport, Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh said Monday's package worth Rs. 1 crore was the first instalment of the Rs. 10 crores committed by the State Government for earthquake relief. The State will also contribute Rs. 2 crores to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The relief package sent by an IAF IL-76 aircraft, included four tonnes of milk powder, four tonnes of biscuits, 10 tonnes of tarpaulin and other tent material and five tonnes of medicine. Asked about the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda's reported statements on allotment of land to Infosys, Mr. Singh said he is yet to go through Mr. Deve Gowda's letter addressed to him. The Janata Dal (Secular) is a partner in the coalition government, he said, adding that it is natural for the party leaders to send him a letter. He will soon study the contents of the letter and respond, Mr. Singh said. The Chief Minister said that there is no threat to the coalition Government in the State. "Nothing will happen to the coalition. It is quite stable. It is like a rock," he said. Ministers Mallikarjuna Kharge, K.H. Muniyappa, R. Ramalinga Reddy and former Union Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief were present.
