This Day That Age
The new wing of the Home Ministry, set up to deal exclusively with the States Reorganisation Commission report, is now busy studying the reactions from the State Governments, political parties and prominent leaders in the country. It has prepared notes on the various financial, administrative, legal and social implications that would arise as a result of the implementation of the report. A thorough analysis is being made of the sections in the Constitution which will have to be amended, the laws in the States which will have to be repealed if the recommendations are given effect to, and also the question of transfer of officers and personnel and their pay scales. Service conditions in respect of the administrative aspects are also being studied. On the economic side, there is the need to estimate the assets and liabilities and the power projects which may get transferred. Mr. Hari Sharma, Joint Secretary, who was formerly Joint Secretary of the States Reorganisation Commission and is now in charge of the new wing, is preparing a special map showing the distribution of the new 16 States recommended by the Commission. No official time-table as such has been fixed yet for the implementation of the report and no target date has also been fixed by which time the recommendations should be implemented.
