PROMOTING CULTURE: Education Minister E.T. Mohammed Basheer with child cine artistes.
The three-day Harry Potter film festival organised by the Kerala Children's Film Society is proving to be a crowd-puller. On the second day of the festival on Tuesday, the Kalabhavan theatre was overcrowded with school students taking in their fill of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The society is faced with the possibility of either having to extend the festival or to organise repeat shows some time later. According to Ratheesh C. Nair, its secretary, the idea was to have two shows of the same movie every day. "The initial response we got from city schools was lukewarm. We, later, went around asking principals to announce the festival in school assemblies. The response was tremendous. Now, we may have to consider organising more shows," he said. The last movie of the festival, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, will be screened on Wednesday morning. Entry to the festival is limited to children coming as a batch from schools. The society has also planned a Charlie Chaplin film festival and screening of children's films from all over the country in November and December.
