Letters to the Editor
This refers to the article "Voice of the silent majority" (Open Page, Oct. 16). No one blames Islam for terrorism practised by some of its followers. But the moderates must be vocal in calling a spade a spade. Whenever communal riots such as Gujarat 2002 occur, moderate Hindus and intellectuals come to the streets to protest against Hindu fundamentalism. It is the duty of every civilised human being to condemn extremism in any form. Unfortunately, intellectuals in the Muslim community have been seen as being lukewarm in their criticism of extremism and terrorism.
