ALAPPUZHA: A second standard student of Haripad Government Lower Primary School, Anu, was injured when a helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) attempted a mock emergency landing drill on the playground adjacent to the school on Tuesday morning. The school authorities said the tiles on the roof of the school fell when the helicopter attempted the landing. The student was injured when a tile hit him. He was given first aid and the injuries were not serious. It is learnt that the IAF authorities had not informed the school authorities about the landing or the need to take precautions.
IAF move
Meanwhile, police sources said the IAF attempted the landing as part of its efforts to identify spots suited for emergency landing in various parts of the State. The chopper also attempted to land at the helipad of the National Thermal Power Corporation at Kanjoor, near Choolatheruvu. The corporation's officials had been informed about the attempt.
