ECB suspends Kirtley for suspect action

An independent assessment revealed that Kirtley's bowling action exceeded the maximum of 15 degrees `elbow extension' allowed within the ECB and ICC regulations

LONDON: Discarded England pacer James Kirtley has been suspended by the ECB for his suspect action.

In a release here, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said the pacer was suspended from bowling in international and competitive county cricket following an independent assessment of his action.

Kirtley had undergone an independent assessment at the ECB National Cricket Centre at Loughborough on September 26 following the receipt of reports on his bowling action from umpires during two county matches.

``The independent assessment undertaken by Dr. M.A. King from Loughborough University revealed that Kirtley's bowling action exceeded the maximum of 15 degrees `elbow extension' allowed within the ECB and ICC regulations.

``As a result he is immediately suspended from bowling in international and competitive County cricket until such time as he has submitted to a fresh independent analysis in which it is concluded that he has remedied his action,'' the release said.

ECB has offered Kirtley and Sussex coaching staff the opportunity to consult with ECB National Academy fast bowling coach Troy Cooley and to use the facilities at the National Cricket Centre at Loughborough to help with remedial work.

Mark Robinson, professional cricket manager at Sussex CCC, said, ``We are obviously disappointed for both James and Sussex, and the club is looking to digest and analyse the information in order to formulate the right plan for the way ahead.'' — UNI
