BANGALORE: The Siddaramaiah group on Tuesday reiterated its claim to the Janata Dal (Secular) symbol and urged the State Election Commissioner to adjudicate the matter soon as the dates for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections have been announced. The former Union Minister C.M. Ibrahim, who has been elected President of the national unit of the Siddaramaiah group, and other leaders submitted a petition to the State Election Commissioner, M.R. Hegde, and said since they have expelled the national President, H.D. Deve Gowda, and simultaneously dissolved the State committee of the party, the symbol should be allotted to it. The others present were the State President of the Siddaramaiah group and former Minister, Satish Jarkiholi, B.R. Patil, M.P. Venkatesh and A.K. Subbaiah. The State Election Commissioner, who heard the claims of the rebel JD(S) group, is expected to give his verdict in about a week. The Siddaramaiah group has made a similar claim before the Election Commission of India. Mr. Ibrahim, in the petition to the State Election Commissioner, has said that Mr. Jarkiholi should be authorised to submit the `A' form (to official candidates that the party fields in the elections) and also to issue the `B' form to candidates to register before the returning officer. He also brought to the notice of the Election Commissioner that Mr. Deve Gowda and the JD(S) State President, N. Thippanna, "have been removed by the National Council of the party on charges of anti-party activities."
