"Al Mansooriyan's claim that it was behind the attack would be verified..." NEW DELHI: Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal, accompanied by senior security and Home Ministry officials, will visit Srinagar on Wednesday to review the security scenario following Tuesday's killing of Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Education Ghulam Nabi Lone. After a quick review of the situation in Srinagar, a high-level meeting, chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, took stock of the relief and rehabilitation work in the earthquake hit areas of Kashmir. Mr. Duggal told presspersons that the State police were investigating all aspects of the Tuesday attack in the high security zone in Srinagar. Al Mansooriyan's claim that it was behind the attack would be verified by the police and security agencies. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed shock and grief over the assassination of Dr. Lone. He said efforts to hamper the earthquake relief work and disturb peace in the State would be thwarted. He urged the people to remain calm and defeat those spreading violence. He sent his condolences to the family members of Dr. Lone. Dr. Singh spoke to CPI (M) MLA Yusuf Tarigami, whose house was also attacked. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad described Dr. Lone as an "upright, honest and dedicated leader" who sacrificed his life for upholding the unity and integrity of the nation. "Unmindful killings by militants only prove one point; they do not have any sympathy with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Such activities will not be allowed to come in the way of the rehabilitation of earthquake victims and restoration of normality in the State," he said.
