PANAJI: Praising Goa as a safe and peaceful State with high development parameters, President Abdul Kalam charted a nine-point mission mode with focus on development to transform the tiny State into an economically developed model State for the entire country. Addressing members of the Goa Legislative Assembly on his one-day visit to the State on Tuesday, the President described the programmes as "those of the people, the entrepreneurs and other innovators who love Goa" and repeatedly called for utilising the route of public-private partnership, including foreign investments to achieve them. In a over 40-minute presentation with a laptop, Mr. Kalam called on the MLAs to work with missionary zeal to fulfil the dream of the youth of combining peace and economic prosperity. Mr. Kalam suggested that the State could undertake nine missions based on its core competences: tourism, including spiritual, health and eco-tourism; horticulture; creation of an exclusive IT Park; value addition for iron ore currently exported heavily; preparing paramedics and technicians with quality training; establishment of centres providing urban facilities in rural areas; fishing; bio-fuel; and infrastructure.Thanking Mr. Kalam, Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane said, "Goa could be a lab for your mission to fulfil your vision for the country to be a super power by 2020." Earlier, Speaker Francisco Sardinha welcomed the President on his arrival in the Assembly. Governor S. C. Jamir was present.
