KADAPA: TDP leaders on Tuesday demanded a judicial enquiry into the circumstances leading to firing by TDP State Secretary S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy's gunman and violence unleashed by Congressmen in Pulivendula including demolition of the TDP office. TDP district Vice-President and former MLA P. Brahmaiah and district Official Spokesman Redyam Venkata Subba Reddy, at a press conference, charged Congressmen with letting loose violence in a pre-planned manner in Pulivendula town and accused policemen of cooperating with arsonists.
Attack by mob
Mr. Satish Reddy's gunman Venkateswarlu opened fire to save the leader from an attacking mob, leading to casualties among Congressmen, they said. Congress functionaries made a mockery of democracy by trying to prevent TDP members from filing nominations in Velpula and some other places in the district, they alleged. Questioning if TDP members had no right to contest elections in a democracy, they said the Government ought to have nominated PACS directors, rather than use pressure tactics. They condemned the violence perpetrated by Congressmen at Pulivendula, Velpula and some other places in the district.
Pressure tactics
Unable to bear threats meted out by Congressmen, TDP members were succumbing to pressure at several places including Duvvur, against the aspirations of TDP activists, Mr. Brahmaiah said. He charged Congressmen with inciting violence, though TDP members lay low. Alleging irregularities right from enrolment of voters, the former MLA said there was violation of cooperative election rules. Demarcation of PACS was haphazard in villages in Nandalur, Vontimitta, Gopavaram and Atlur, where TDP has a hold, he alleged.
