Tamil grammar encyclopaedia

Staff Reporter

It will be released on October 24 at the University of Madras

CHENNAI: Tamil Ilakkanap Peragaradhi (Cyclopaedia of Tamil grammar), authored by T.V. Gopalaier and published by Tamilmann Pathippagam, will be released on October 24 at the Marina campus of University of Madras.

Speaker K. Kalimuthu will release the book and Dhinakar, regional manager, Indian Overseas Bank, will receive the first copy.

A seminar will also be held on the occasion in which eminent Tamil scholars will participate.

Pandita Vidwan Gopalaier has put in 25 years of extensive research to compile the first edition of the book in 17 volumes.

He has drawn references from most of the works on Tamil grammar, including Tolkappiam. "I've inserted small, rare details where ever possible," he said.

It is an attempt to document the transformations Tamil grammar has undergone in these years.

This book is one of its kind, said V. Arasu, head of the department of Tamil Literature, University of Madras.

Publisher G. Elavazhagan of Tamilmann Pathippagam said that Mr. Gopalaier had single-handedly done what would have taken several scholars to put together.

The set of 17 volumes is priced at Rs. 3,915.

It will be available for Rs. 3,000 on the date of release.
