DPCC constitutes Ethics Committee

NEW DELHI: Following directions issued by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Tuesday announced constitution of an Ethics Committee to ensure that party workers follow it in letter and in spirit in the larger interest of the people.

B.L. Mehta to head panel

Senior party leader Bansi Lal Mehta will head the 12-member Ethics Committee. Under directions issued by Ms. Gandhi to the party units, all elected representatives would be required to submit their annual statements of assets and income to the DPCC president.

In addition to this, public, political and party functions as well as marriages and other private parties should be kept simple and unostentatious, presentation of bouquets, garlands, gifts and other related items should be avoided at functions and receptions and attendance at ostentatious functions of any kind should be avoided.

First meeting

Mr. Sharma said the directives of Ms. Gandhi would be followed religiously and the first meeting of the Ethics Committee has been convened on October 22.

He said as per the directions of the Congress president, no celebrations would be organised on his birthday falling on January 1 and a similar direction would be given to all elected representatives.
