NEW DELHI: A Japanese delegation from Fukuoka Prefecture headed by its treasurer, Shinsuke Eguchi, called on Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday and offered assistance in the fields of public transport and environment protection. The 10-member delegation is here to study the political-administrative structure, culture, education system, industries and various other aspects including possible exchange between Fukuoka Prefecture and the Delhi Government. At the outset, Ms. Dikshit elaborated on the structure of her Government and mentioned certain achievements including e-governance, largest CNG bus fleet and the successful running of the Metro Rail. She also appraised the delegation about Delhi Government's preparedness for Commonwealth Games 2010. At the same time, she reiterated the commitment of her Government to introduce the High Capacity Bus System, Electric Trolley Buses and Monorail to supplement the existing Delhi Metro network. Mr. Eguchi informed that Fukuoka Prefecture is the industrial and cultural hub of Western Japan. He expressed his willingness to render cooperation to the Delhi Government in the fields of public transport and environment protection. He also extended an invitation on behalf of the Governor to Ms. Dikshit to visit Fukuoka.
