Seminar on Russia at the crossroads

NEW DELHI: The Union Human Resource Development Minister, Arjun Singh, said on Tuesday that it was absolutely essential not to lose one's identity while adjusting to the emerging realities of the changing world.

He was addressing a two-day international seminar on "Russia at the Crossroads: Language, Literature, Culture and Society in the 21st Century" organised jointly by the Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here.

BJP delegation calls on Sheila

NEW DELHI: A delegation led by Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan called on Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum demanding regularisation of non-conforming industrial units running in residential colonies of the city.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, was also part of the delegation. Ms. Dikshit assured them that all issues raised in the memorandum would be addressed by her Government.

E-Procurement System

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet has given its nod for introduction of E-Procurement System for procurement of goods, services and Public Works Department projects. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday. The new system would usher in transparency and efficiency in the tendering system.

Seminar on chit funds

NEW DELHI: The All-India Association of Chit Fund Operators organised a one-day seminar on chit funds here this past weekend. Titled `Chit Funds: An Indigenous Financial Technology', it brought together over 200 delegates from all over the country.

Inaugurated by the Delhi Minister of Commerce and Industries, Mangat Ram Singhal, the seminar highlighted the need for legislation to ban unregistered chit fund operators commonly known as `committees'.

With many unregistered chit fund operators leading people astray, it was important for the public to subscribe to only registered chit fund companies, said the Registrar of Chit Funds, S.S. Ghandkrokta.

World Menopause Day observed

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of World Menopause Day on Tuesday, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital organised lectures on cancers of the breast, uterus and ovary.

An attempt to ensure early detection of the deadly disease, the programme offered women guidance about screening procedures.
