Women's participation in Friday prayers in Abu Dhabi

KOZHIKODE: The Ithihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM) has welcomed the step of A.P. Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musaliar to lead the prayers at the Sheikh Syed Binsulthan Assani Mosque in Abu Dhabi, in which women participated at the Friday prayers on October 14.

At a meeting of the ISM State Secretariat here on Monday, it was pointed out that a special place was demarcated for women to perform the prayers at the said mosque, but the main gate to the compound of the mosque had no special entrance for women.

It was noted that Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musaliar leading the prayers in which women had participated at the Arad Jamiyat at Baharain in July, had been a matter of discussion.

State vice-president of the ISM K. K. Zacharia Swalahi presided. General secretary C. P. Saleem and others also spoke on the occasion.

The ISM appealed to mahalla committees and those opposing the participation of women in prayers in mosques not to take a stringent view on the issue and allow the entry of women in all mosques in the State. It was pointed out that in places such as Mecca and Medina women were not denied entry.
