MADIKERI: An 11-day children's film festival will be organised in Kodagu from October 21. Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, who chaired a preliminary meeting, has asked the 12 selected cinema owners in the district to ensure uninterrupted screening of the children's films during the festival. The cinema owners have been told to screen the movies at 11 a.m. during the festival, except on market days. Officials of the Education Department have been asked to prepare a timetable for students of various schools to attend the screenings.
50,000 tickets
The district has received 50,000 tickets for the film festival, which has been distributed to the three taluks through Education Department officials. Virajpet taluk was given 19,000 tickets, Somwarpet taluk 18,000 and Madikeri taluk 13,000 tickets. The heads of the educational institutions will distribute them to the students. District Information Officer Vinod Chandra said that all the 12 film reels have reached and they will be given to cinema owners for exhibition.
Bus facility
Regional Transport Officer Satyanarayana Prasad said that private bus owners have been told to give concession to children visiting the cinemas during the festival. Two students, winners of the district level "Pratibha Karanji" competition, will inaugurate the festival. The meeting decided to invite Madikeri MLA K.G. Bopaiah, Superintendent of Police Devajyoti Ray and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Sundar Naik to the inaugural function. The cinemas screening the films are Cauvery and Basappa in Madikeri, Rajarajeshwari in Virajpet, Mamata and Nayana in Gonicoppa, Jyoti in Kutta, Woodlands in Siddapura, Mahalakshmi in Somwarpet, Venkateshwara in Kushalnagar, Ganesh in Sunticoppa, Yashasvini in Shanivarasante, and Veebhadreshwara in Kodlipet.
