Devaswom defers decision on land

GURUVAYUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom Managing Committee meeting on Tuesday deferred a decision on the proposal for acquiring land around the Sree Krishna Temple. Committee chairman K.V. Nambiar said the committee had to defer the decision "as the Devaswom has not yet received the legal opinion in this regard from the Standing Council.'' He said the legal opinion is now expected within a week's time.According to him the Devaswom has time till October 30 to remit Rs.6 crores to the Government, as has been directed by the District Collector, for completing the land acquisition formalities and to pay compensation to the land owners. - Staff Reporter

Dhanalakshmi Bank founder director dead

Thrissur: R.V. Narasimha Iyer, one of the founder directors of the Dhanalakshmi Bank, died here on Tuesday. He was 95. He is survived by five sons and two daughters. - Staff Reporter

Mother and two children found dead

PALAKKAD: A woman and her two children were found burnt to death in their house at Appazham Pottakkavu, near Thenur, in the Mankara police station limits on Tuesday morning. According to the police, it is suspected to be a suicide pact. The woman is suspected to have doused the children and herself with kerosene and torched themselves to death. The dead have been identified as Indira, 30, wife of Ravikumar, Appazham Pottakavu, Thenur, and their children Kumar, 4, and Amritha, 2.

Student injured

ALAPPUZHA: A second standard student of Haripad Government Lower Primary School, Anu, was injured when a helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) attempted a mock emergency landing drill on the playground adjacent to the school on Tuesday morning.

The school authorities said a tile on the roof of the school fell on Anu. — Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: A national seminar on `Recent Developments in Spectroscopy and Nanochemistry' will be organised by Post-Graduate Department of Chemistry of Sree Neelakanta Government Sanskrit College, Pattambi, on October 20 and 21. — Staff Reporter

Samastha results today

MALAPPURAM: The Samastha Kerala Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board (SKIMVB) will announce the results of its public examinations on Wednesday morning. Nearly 1.88 lakh students had taken the public examination conducted by the Samastha for the fifth, seventh and 10th classes. The examinations were held on September 10 and 11 in 8,860 centres spread across the world. — Staff Reporter
