UDUPI: Former Indian wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani on Tuesday said that the defeat of the World XI Cricket team to the Australia XI team at Sydney may have to do with the relaxed attitude with which the former team played there. Addressing presspersons after inaugurating the State-level Primary and High School Boys and Girls Volley Ball Tournament at Yennehole in Udupi district, Mr. Kirmani said that cricketers are more charged up when they play for their own countries, as national pride is involved. When questioned about the controversy regarding former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly and the Indian coach Greg Chappel, he said that it is a closed chapter. This episode has only been highlighted by the media. There is unity in the Indian team. Difference of opinion is common, but these matters should be within the confines of the dressing room, Mr. Kirmani said. He said that it is difficult to decide at this stage that who is best among the three wicket keepers, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel. But it is essential for all of them to be consistent and committed. Adam Gilchrist of Australia is the best wicket keeper in the world, he said. He said that the present Indian skipper Rahul Dravid is a good cricketer. He hoped that the Indian team will perform well under him.
