Illegal stamp vending

The Crime Branch raided several places in the city and suburbs on Monday and has brought to light unauthorised vending of stamp papers at higher rates.

An official said that stamp papers in the denomination of Rs. 10 and 20 were seized from Senthil Kumar of Tirumangalam, who did not have a vendor licence.

"Three authorised vendors — S. Pandithai of Mogappair West, Rajendran of Omandur (Tindivanam) and Ramesh of Kellys — used to supply stamp papers in bulk to Senthil without making proper entries.

"We have written to Inspector General, Registration to cancel their licences," the official said. Most of these stamp papers were used for illegal transactions in the city, he added.

Bank account misused

A 25-year-old man was arrested by the cyber crime cell of the city police on charges of hacking and theft after he used a friend's ATM account for online shopping. According to assistant commissioner S. Balu, V.Ramesh, a resident of Mylapore , had a tiff with his friend Jesu Vimalan of Besant Nagar.

The accused misused his knowledge of his friend's HDFC ATM account password to shop online for lingerie.

"He couriered the items twice to Ramesh's residence knowing well that he comes from a conservative family," said Mr. Balu.
