  • More inflows expected from Maharashtra
  • 10,000 cusecs released after six years

HYDERABAD: The authorities lifted one crest gate across the Singur project to release 10,000 cusecs of water as a precautionary measure on Tuesday evening.

The Singur project across the Manjira, a tributary of the Godavari and source of drinking water to the city, is set to be full on Wednesday.

An inflow of 30,000 cusecs of water was received following heavy inflows due to rain in its Karnataka and Andhra catchments. The dam which has a capacity of 29 tmcft has 27 tmcft of water now.

Medak Staff Reporter adds: Executive Engineer of the project K. Buchaiah said another 30,000 to 60,000 cusecs from Saigaon of Maharashtra would flow into the project. With 30,000 cusecs of water reaching by afternoon, a decision had been taken to discharge the floodwater. For the first time in six years, 10,000 cusecs released, he noted.
