NEW DELHI: All claims of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi authorities about dengue prevention measures in the Capital were exposed on Tuesday when two more deaths due to the deadly disease were reported in the city. So far three Delhiites have died of dengue, taking this year's total death figure so far to six. Ironically, it took MCD almost a week to announce the death due to dengue of an 11-year-old girl, Seema, a resident of Prem Nagar at Narela in North West Delhi, at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri on October 11. While the second death of a 22-year-old man at Chanan Devi Hospital at Janakpuri in West Delhi was confirmed by the municipal authorities on Tuesday. The deceased, Brahma Dutt, was the son of a Tihar Jail employee who was residing in the jail complex. Of the six deaths reported so far, three each are from Delhi and the neighbouring States who were brought to the Capital for treatment. Meanwhile, eight new dengue cases were reported on Tuesday that include seven from Delhi and one from neighbouring States, taking the total number of cases to 356. Of these, 249 are from Delhi, while 107 belong to other States including Uttar Pradesh (42) and Haryana(29). In Delhi, MCD accounts for 237 and New Delhi Municipal Council 11 cases. In MCD, West zone is worst affected with 57 cases.
