BANGALORE: The crisis in the Tumkur district unit of the Congress ended on Wednesday with leaders at various levels withdrawing their resignation from their party posts following a meeting with Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh at the Congress Bhavan here. The leaders agreed to withdraw their resignations after Mr. Dharam Singh assured them that he will address their grievances with regard to the election of the President of the Tumkur District Milk Union. The immediate provocation for the resignation was the election of a Janata Dal (Secular) member to the milk union post. Congress leaders from the district blamed Mr. Dharam Singh for the election of the Janata Dal (S) member on the ground that it was facilitated by the nomination of three persons from that party to the union and the directive issued to four official members to vote for the party candidate.
Demand
Tumkur Staff Correspondent reports: Earlier, Congress leaders from Tumkur District said Mr. Kharge has promised to meet their demand for setting aside Friday election to the milk union and uphold the poll on September 29 (in which H.B. Shivananjhappa Halemane of Congress was elected as union President).
