A quiet visit

Rahul Gandhi is flowering fast into a seasoned politician. As is the case on the eve of all VVIP visits, news of his visit to Kozhikode began doing the rounds since Tuesday evening. But neither the police officers nor his own party men were aware of his itinerary in the city.

All the information that was available from official sources on Wednesday was that the young parliamentarian from Amethi was on a private visit and that he was to coming in a car from Dharmasthala, near Uduppi in Karnataka, at night. Mr. Gandhi, who comes under the Z-plus security category, arrived in a Honda CR-V at the Kadavu resort at the outskirts of the city 10 minutes past midnight.

Mr. Gandhi stayed at the special suit 309 of the resort. He had supper along with the Special Protection Group team at the restaurant at around 12.30 a.m. On Thursday morning, he just had tea and departed for Chennai by an Indian Airlines flight that took off at 8 a.m.
