Staff Reporter
GUNTUR: Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTransco) has been ranked number one in the country for its efficiency by reputed rating agency like Credit Rating and Investment Services Limited (CRISIL), Finance Minister K. Rosaiah said. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that due to the scientific management principles adopted by Transco, the Rs.1,800-crore annual subsidy given by the State Government to the corporation had come down by 200 crores.
Revenue up
The revenue collections have also gone up to 97 per cent, and Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses have come down, despite giving free power to the farmers for seven hours in a day, he said. Due to the abundant rainfall received during the last few weeks, the hydro-electric power production was also at its peak, he observed. Regarding the financial implications of the withdrawal of agitation by the RTC employees, he said that Finance Department was yet to receive the actual cost of the deal worked out by the Transport Minister. "We will get a true picture on the receipt of the final agreement reached between the Joint Action Committee of the RTC and the Government," he said.
Medical seats
Mr. Rosaiah said that he was confident of the Medical Council of India (MCI) restoring the 25 seats which were withdrawn recently from the Guntur Medical College for lack of proper infrastructure, in tune with the norms of the MCI. He also wanted the other medical colleges to take a cue from the happenings at Guntur and take steps to improve the infrastructure. He said that the Congress Government had expedited the process of relief and rehabilitation for the people displaced due to construction of irrigation projects. "Earlier, it used to take a long time to get the relief package. But now it is simplified, to enable maximum benefits to the displaced," he added.
