Chiba (Japan): Jyoti Randhawa carded a three-under 69 to finish tied 12th, while Jeev Milkha Singh finished one stroke behind to be at the tied 27th- place after the first round in the 11-million Yen Bridgestone Open here on Friday. Jong-Duck Kim fired a sparkling seven-under 65 to grab the sole lead, ahead of the David Smail-Katsuyoshi Tomori duo. At the par-72 Sodegaura Country Club, Randhawa was consistent and barring two bogeys one in each nine had a fairly good outing. His string of six par shots was intercepted by a birdie on the second before Randhawa stumbled on the first bogey on seventh. He completed his half-way journey in style with a birdie on the ninth and then back nine turned out to be even better. Randhawa was almost flawless as he fired birdies on the 11th, 13th and 15th with par shots in between and just when he was looking to wrap up a fruitful day, a bogey on the 17th pulled him back as he finished the day on three-under 69. The other Indian in the 102-player field, Jeev Milkha Singh put up a better show on back nine to card two-under 70. After an average front nine with two birdies and as many bogeys, Jeev bogeyed the 11th and 14th. But birdies on the 13th and 18th and an eagle earlier at the 16th saved him as the Indian finished the day on tied 27th- place along with 13 others. UNI
