Bidar: Agricultural scientists have advised farmers to apply organic fertilizers and neem cake to the standing sugarcane crop to protect it from woolly aphid infestation. The woolly aphid disease has reduced significantly in the district, but the remaining insects have to be controlled by adopting integrated pest management techniques, said a release by scientists of the University of Agriculture Sciences. Inorganic pesticides can be sprayed as an emergency measure. A mixture of 2 ml Endosulfan or 1.5 ml of Dimethoate or 1 ml of Malatheon per litre of water should be added to 3 ml neem oil, 3 gram to 5 gram of fish oil raisin soap solution. An acre needs 400 litres of this solution. Crystals of Phorate or Carbophuran should be mixed with the soil. Each acre needs 8 kg to 10 kg of the mixture. The District Pest Inspection Committee has found eggs and primary larvae of the pod borer insect on the tur crop. The insects can be controlled by spraying Prophenophaus 50 EC 2 ml, or Thiodi Carb 75 WSC 0.6 gm, Methomil 40 SC 0.6 gm per litre of water. Each acre needs 250 litres of the solution. Endosulfan or Chloro Pyriphaus should not be used as a primary spray. The root-stem infection in ginger can be tackled by spraying Redomil M Z 6 gram per litre. Infected plants have to be uprooted and burnt. Red fire disease in paddy can be controlled by spraying Tricyclozol 0.6 gram per litre. Roundworm disease can be controlled by spraying Copper oxychloride and Spetrocycline (each 18 gram per litre), the release said.
