Isolated heavy rain likely in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Northeast monsoon has been vigorous over Rayalaseema and active over Tamil Nadu.

Rainfall occurred at most places over south interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep and at many places over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Kerala and north interior Karnataka and at a few places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and coastal Karnataka.

The following stations recorded very heavy to heavy rainfall in Centimetres:

Arakonam (Vellore dt.) 13, Ambur (Vellore dt.) 11, Chidambaram (Cuddalore dt.) 10, Kanchipuram, Vaniyambadi and Sholinghur (both Vellore dt.) 9 each, Ponneri (Tiruvallur dt.), Thozhudur (Cuddalore dt.) and Bangarpet (Kolar dt.) 8 each, Vandavasi (Tiruvannamalai dt.), Tiruppuvanam (Sivagangai dt.), Chengalpattu (Kanchipuram dt.), Harihara (Davanagare dt.) and Tumkur 7 each.

Palayamkottai recorded the highest maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius in the region and Arogyavaram recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 19 degree Celsius in the plains of the region.

Forecast (valid until Saturday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep and at a few places over Telangana, coastal and north interior Karnataka.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours.

Farmers Weather Bulletin for Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Forecast (valid until the morning of 22nd October 2005): Moderate to rather heavy rain is likely to occur at many places over all the districts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

Outlook for subsequent two days: No significant change.
