Another early exit for Roddick

MADRID: Andy Roddick blew a match point in the second set and lost 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-6(3) to Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in the Madrid Masters second round on Wednesday.

Argentina's David Nalbandian entered the quarterfinals, defeating Sweden's Thomas Johansson 6-3, 7-5 in the third round.

``For two sets I don't think I could have played better. It was the highest quality match we've played,'' said second-seeded Roddick.

He had match point at 6-5 in the second-set tie-breaker, but he netted a return and the 6-foot-10 Karlovic won it 9-7 on his second set point when Roddick's return fell wide.

In doubles, India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Martin Damm of Czech Republic caused the biggest upset of the tournament as they ousted top-seeded Bob and Mike Bryan of the U.S. in the first round.

The unseeded Indo-Czech pair rallied to 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-2 win on Thursday to advance to the second round where they are slated to meet Leander Paes and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia.
