BELLARY: Activists of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) district unit on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in protest against the erratic supply of LPG, power and drinking water in the city. K. Somashekar, general secretary of the unit, in his address, criticised the Government for its failure to ensure proper supply of drinking water, LPG and power and also to provide other basic amenities. He accused the officials concerned of negligence. Criticising the "anti-people" policies being adopted by the Government, Mr. Somashekar held that globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation was the root cause for the sufferings of the people and called upon them to defeat these policies. Manjula, district committee member, spoke. Later the officials, who received a memorandum, promised to take steps to ensure proper supply of LPG, water and power.
