Chennai: The Sri Lankan cricket team arrived in India on Thursday afternoon to a quiet but warm reception. The side spent three hours in Chennai's Kamaraj domestic terminal before boarding the evening flight to Mumbai. Marvan Atapattu's squad will then travel to Nagpur where the first of the seven ODIs will be played on October 25. Skipper Atapattu appeared relaxed and confident. He was also apologetic about not airing his views to the waiting media. "We have strict instructions to only speak at the official press conference in Mumbai on Friday. If I say something here, I would be repeating it over there." Coach Tom Moody too stayed away from the presspersons.
Murali favours Chennai
In an informal chat with journalists, off-spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan enquired about the venues for the Test match. When the Lankan was told that the centres for the three-Test series beginning on December 2 had not been decided, he said, "It would be nice to have a Test in Chennai. It should be a spinning track here." Explosive opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya, who recently aggravated an old shoulder injury during a water polo game at the beach resort town of Bentota, said he was "feeling better." His trademark beam was in place as swaggered into the team bus Our Special Correspondent.
