The situation in this riot-torn town of Uttar Pradesh was limping back to normality on Thursday with the district administration relaxing the curfew, which enabled women and children to purchase essential commodities.
The curfew was relaxed between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. as no untoward incident was reported from any part of the town, the Principal Secretary (Home), Alok Sinha, told reporters in Lucknow.
District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram said the situation in the town, where nine persons were killed and 40 others injured in communal violence that erupted over Dussehra celebrations, was under control.
Security personnel continued to patrol the sensitive areas, sources said. PTI
