Centre asks States to finalise Below Poverty Line lists

NEW DELHI: The Centre has asked the State governments to finalise the Below Poverty Line (BPL) lists based on the 2002 Census as their non-availability was affecting implementation of poverty alleviation programmes.

In a letter to Chief Secretaries, Rural Development Secretary Pratyush Sinha said that before finalisation the lists should be duly approved by the gram sabhas and displayed at the panchayat headquarters. The Ministry wants the work to be completed within three or four months.
