Mini-micro power project for rural Shimla opened

SHIMLA: Himachal's first 1-MW mini-micro power project constructed in the private sector started generating power at Ching in the Jubbal area of rural Shimla district on Thursday.

Inaugurating the project, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh disclosed that at least 202 memoranda of understanding for generating a total of 465 MW of hydel energy have been signed by the State Government with private entrepreneurs.

Mr. Virbhadra Singh said that detailed project reports for 168 out of 202 micro projects had been received and techno-economic clearance to 102 projects had been accorded by the competent authorities. He said that implementation agreements for 81 projects having a capacity of 239.8 MW had been signed and were at different stages of getting statutory clearances.

Nine projects of private developers having an estimated capacity of 22.20 MW had been commissioned and seven projects of 1155 KW had been commissioned by HIMURJA so far, the Chief Minister added. He said that projects up to 5 MW were being allocated to the Himachal residents on a priority basis. This would help in their participation in hydel power generation.

The Government subsidiary HIMURJA is functioning as the nodal agency for allocation of such micro projects.

The Chief Minister said that the entire hydel potential of the State would be exploited by constructing mini-micro projects so that they could contribute towards the local power needs while the surplus power would be added to the national power grid
