Uttaranchal
DEHRADUN: Uttaranchal Assembly was adjourned twice on Thursday amid noisy scenes and the Opposition parties walked out of the House after Speaker refused to grant permission for discussion on various issues. As soon as the House reassembled after a fortnight-long break, BJP members vociferously raised the issue of `lal batti' (red beacons) saying Chief Minister N D Tiwari was distributing ministerial-level posts in bulk causing extra burden on non-plan expenditure. The BJP members led by Leader of the Opposition Matbar Singh Kandari sought immediate discussion on the issue by suspending question hour. At the same time, the ruling Congress party members wanted to raise the Tehri Dam issue, which was strongly objected by BJP and other opposition members. Ajay Bhatt (BJP) said Congress party members were creating hurdles in the smooth functioning of the House and depriving the opposition members to raise the burning issues. ``This is a well-planned strategy of the Congress members to scuttle the voice of the opposition,'' he said. BJP members also staged a walkout over the issue.- PTI
